What can be changed
At the owner's request, Rospatent records changes to the registration details in the register (Russian Civil Code, Art. 1505(1)):
- The owner's name. The company has been renamed or has changed its legal form, but it is still the same legal entity.
- The owner's address. The company's new registered address, or an individual's new place of residence.
- The correspondence address. Rospatent sends its letters here. For foreign owners it is usually the representative's address, so it has to be replaced when you change attorneys.
- The list of goods and services (Nice classes). Narrowing only: you can remove individual items or a whole class, or narrow the wording.
- Individual elements of the mark. Only minor corrections that do not change the essence of the mark. I assess whether a correction is possible before filing.
- Obvious and technical errors in the register and in the certificate.
Each change is charged separately: the service fee and the official fee apply to every one. A new owner name, a new owner address and a new correspondence address are three changes, and narrowing the list of goods (however many items are removed) is a fourth.
What an amendment cannot do
It cannot add goods or classes: that takes a new application with its own priority date. It cannot transfer the mark to another person either: that is an assignment. And it cannot change the mark substantially (replace the word or the main image): that also takes a new application.
When you need it
- The company has been renamed or has moved. The register should match the real details. Otherwise, in deals, licensing and marketplace checks you will have to prove that the owner is the same company, and Rospatent's letters may still go to the old address.
- You are changing representatives. The correspondence address has to be replaced so that Rospatent's letters go to the new representative and not the old one. That way no deadline is missed.
- Renewal is coming. The owner's details must be up to date, and the list of goods is worth reviewing: see the section below.
- Some goods are not used. Narrowing the list reduces the risk of partial termination of protection for non-use (Russian Civil Code, Art. 1486).
- There is a mistake in the register or the certificate. Obvious and technical errors are corrected on an application.

Regulation on Patent and Other Fees (Government Decree No. 941 of December 10, 2008, as amended on September 23, 2025), Appendix 1, item 2.16: CNY 250 for each change to one trademark. This covers the owner's details, the correspondence address, narrowing the list, changes to elements of the mark and correction of errors. One application is filed for each certificate, so the service fee and the official fee are calculated for each mark separately. If the certificate itself also has to be updated (item 2.17), a further CNY 150 is paid, and CNY 250 more for a paper certificate. I will quote the service fee for updating the certificate before filing.
Rospatent's official fees are set in rubles. They are converted to yuan here at the Bank of Russia's official rate of October 11, 2026 (RUB 12.67 per CNY 1) and rounded; the exact amount is stated in the invoice.
Narrowing the list before renewal
When an application is filed, hundreds of items are often added to the list “just in case.” While the mark is in force this costs nothing. But since October 4, 2025, renewal adds a further CNY 40 for each item over 10 in one class (Government Decree No. 1459 of September 23, 2025). The longer the list, the more renewal costs.

The surcharge is calculated for each class separately and is added to the renewal fee (CNY 1,750 for a mark in up to 5 classes).
Example
A class has 100 items and you need only 30. With the full list the renewal surcharge is CNY 3,600; with the narrowed list it is CNY 800. The difference is CNY 2,800, while the narrowing costs CNY 1,050 (one change). It pays off once a few dozen unneeded items are removed.
Keep what you sell or plan to sell. Narrowing is irreversible: a removed item cannot be restored, and a new application gets a new priority date. For the renewal fee to be calculated on the narrowed list, it is better to have the change entered in the register before you file the renewal request. Review takes up to 75 business days (about three and a half months), so it is best to start early.
Questions about amendments
Which owner details can be changed?
The name, the address (registered address or place of residence) and the correspondence address. If the rights in the mark pass to another person, that is no longer an amendment but an assignment.
My company was renamed, but I am not renewing the mark yet. Do I still need to update the register?
It is advisable. The register should match the real details. Otherwise, in a deal, a license or a marketplace check you will have to prove separately that the owner is the same company, and Rospatent's letters may still go to the old address.
How do I change the correspondence address when I change attorney?
An application to amend the register is filed, giving the new representative's address: a service fee of CNY 800 and an official fee of CNY 250 for this change in each mark. Until the entry is made, Rospatent's letters keep going to the old address, so start in good time.
Can I add goods to a mark that is already registered?
No. The list can only be narrowed (Art. 1505(1)). New goods and classes are protected by a new application, which gets its own priority date.
Can I change the mark itself, for example the logo?
Only slightly, and only if the essence of the mark stays the same. Replacing the word or the main image takes a new application. Before filing I assess whether Rospatent will accept the correction.
How is the price calculated for several changes?
Every change is paid for separately: a service fee of CNY 800 and an official fee of CNY 250 for each change to each mark. Changing the owner's address is one change; changing the correspondence address as well is a second one. So two changes to one mark (owner name and address) cost CNY 2,100: CNY 1,600 for the work and CNY 500 in official fees. All four changes (name, address, correspondence address and narrowing the list) cost CNY 4,200.
When does an amendment take effect?
When the entry is made in the State Trademark Register. Until then the previous details remain. Under the regulation, review takes up to 75 business days.
My mark has hundreds of goods and services. How can I reduce the renewal fee?
Narrow the list to what you actually use: since October 4, 2025, renewal adds CNY 40 for each item over 10 in a class. Narrowing is requested in the same amendment application: a service fee of CNY 800 and an official fee of CNY 250, however many items are removed. More in the section above on narrowing the list.
How do I pay from China?
