Cost and timing
CNY 1,400 for the work plus an official fee from CNY 1,750. The request is accepted in the last year of the term.
When a trademark must be renewed
- Standard period: the last year of the term
The request is filed during the last year of the 10-year term (Russian Civil Code, Art. 1491(2)). It cannot be filed years in advance.
- Grace period: 6 more months
If the standard period was missed, a further 6 months may be granted on the owner's request (Art. 1491(2)), with an additional fee.
- After that, protection ends
It cannot be restored. You can only file a new application, and in the meantime someone else may have registered the name.

Rospatent's official fees are set in rubles. They are converted to yuan here at the Bank of Russia's official rate of October 11, 2026 (RUB 12.67 per CNY 1) and rounded; the exact amount is stated in the invoice.
Has the company name or address changed?
It is best to have the change recorded in the State Trademark Register before the renewal request or together with it: a service fee of CNY 800 and an official fee of CNY 250 for each change. See amendments to a registered mark.
A long list of goods? Narrow it before renewal
Since October 4, 2025, renewal costs an extra CNY 40 for each item over 10 in one class. If hundreds of items were put in the list at registration, the surcharge can exceed the renewal fee itself: with 100 items in a class it is CNY 3,600, and after narrowing to 30 items it is CNY 800. Narrowing costs CNY 1,050 and takes up to 75 business days, so it is better to start early. A removed item cannot be restored. More on amendments.
Questions about trademark renewal
My distributor registered my brand in Russia. Can I renew the mark?
Only the owner can renew a mark. First the rights have to be transferred to your company under an assignment agreement that is registered at Rospatent.
How do I find out when the term ends?
The term runs from the filing date and is shown on the certificate and in the State Trademark Register. Send me the certificate number and I will check the date and calculate the fee.
Can I narrow the list of goods before renewal?
Yes. It is a separate filing to amend the register (Art. 1505), described in the section on amendments. The renewal fee is then calculated on fewer items. Remove only what you really do not need: an item cannot be put back.
Can I renew years in advance?
No. A renewal request is accepted only in the last year of the term or in the 6-month grace period.
How do I pay for renewal from China?
Against an invoice in Chinese yuan (CNY) by international transfer. I pay the official fee to Rospatent on your behalf. The contract is in Russian or English.
